Government Innovation Showcase Federal 2026

An Intelligent APS: Smart, Productive, and Connected.

22 Oct 2026
National Convention Centre Canberra, Canberra

Overview

The Australian Public Service is entering a new era of transformation. AI, data, automation and emerging technologies are no longer pilots or experiments - they are reshaping how agencies deliver services, make decisions and build capability. The focus is shifting from proving the technology to scaling it: turning early wins into enduring change, and individual tools into a connected, intelligent public service that works as one for Australians.

This shift is not just technical. Success will depend as much on governance, workforce readiness and cross-agency collaboration as it does on the technology itself. Sustainable transformation requires modernising legacy systems, embedding responsible AI practices, and rebuilding internal capability so public servants are equipped to lead change, not just adopt it.

GIW Federal brings together senior leaders from across the Australian Government to explore the opportunities, hard realities and practical lessons of building a more intelligent, connected and productive public service. Through keynotes, executive panels and case studies, delegates will hear how agencies are using AI, data and digital innovation to improve citizen experience, strengthen decision-making and lift productivity at scale.

Discussions will examine the future of service delivery, responsible AI adoption, workforce capability, and the governance and trust foundations needed for change that endures. Attendees will learn from leaders who are delivering — not theorising — and see how the APS is balancing ambition with accountability to produce better outcomes for Australians.
