Let’s Chat: Rethinking Cyber Risk in the Age of AI Agents

Seneca Polytechnic’s Ali Abbas Hirji explores AI-enabled insider threats, deepfakes and why public-sector cyber resilience must protect service continuity not merely keep technology platforms online

As AI agents become embedded in everyday workflows, well-intentioned employees may unintentionally create new insider risks by deploying tools without the controls applied to human workers.

Ali Abbas Hirji also challenges public-sector organizations to measure cyber resilience through service availability rather than platform availability. If a technology provider experiences an outage, essential services should remain accessible—even at reduced capacity.

Other emerging risks include convincing deepfakes that exploit geopolitical events and social context in real time. Preparing the next generation of cyber professionals will therefore require more than technical knowledge: clear, contextual communication and effective prompting are becoming essential cybersecurity skills.
