Future-Proofing the Health Ecosystem with Lessons Learned from the Pandemic

The last few years have been particularly challenging for the health sector. Not only did the frontline and other health professionals have to learn how to treat a new disease and all that that entails, but there have been many variants since the initial declaration of a pandemic, as well as many political and social ramifications. As a result of these pandemic years, the sector as a whole has learned a lot, and has adapted even more.

The need for an interconnected, inclusive, and sustainable healthcare system is greater than ever. To future-proof public sector healthcare and address underlying systemic challenges, integrating the voices of the workforce and patients with enhanced technological innovation is paramount. We hold a shared vision where the patient is engaged in their care, clinicians effortlessly access and share data to enhance clinical practice, planning and resourcing is streamlined and equality of care is realised. Digital transformation is at the core of this now-critical national health reform.

As part of these learnings, the Public Sector Network hosted a ‘Health Innovation’ roadshow in October 2022 across Australia and New Zealand. Delegates at this event – all Australian and New Zealand based healthcare leaders were surveyed. The following is a summary of some of the challenges, learnings and updated priorities in the Australian and New Zealand healthcare sector, as well as an analysis of survey findings.
