HR & Analytics in the Public Sector
People are the backbone of any organisation, and HR branches are often complex because of the issues they need to deal with. Analytics tools are often useful when dealing with people and forecasting future trends in HR. This paper brings together the perspectives of three workforce analysts who use analytics as part of their HR toolkits to better deal with their current workforce and to predict future capabilities. The lessons from these perspectives can assist anyone who deals with people or large departments.
Data, Analytics and AI
Big Data & Actionable Analytics for Government
All organisations collect data and use data. Some have data strategies to inform how the data is used and managed, whilst others use data in creative ways to deal with challenges and crises, including COVID-19. This paper presents the perspectives of three data experts from different sized public sector organisations. Between them, they are using the data at their disposal to streamline manual processes, to manage crises, and to assist their stakeholders and residents in new and creative ways. The lessons from these perspectives can assist others to also use data in innovative ways.
Data, Analytics and AI
AI in the Public Sector
The amount of data being produced is constantly increasing, particularly in the public sector, and technology is constantly improving. As such, artificial intelligence (AI), with data at its core, is making its way into the public sector in order to drive efficiencies. This paper focuses on the data and AI journeys of three data experts from three different institutions. All three agree that AI is creating efficiency and is a viable and popular solution for certain problems, but it needs to be used appropriately and for the right reasons.
Digital Services and Customer Experience
A Citizen-Led Digital Government Transformation
Customer centricity becomes more paramount in uncertain times, and the ability for the Public Sector to adapt and respond quickly to society’s changing needs is crucial in moments of disruption, as habits and behaviours irreversibly change and public trust is undoubtedly shaken. This is necessitating a new kind of governmental reform; to reshape services by redesigning, and reorganising how departments cater to the increasingly digitally driven – and now at times physically isolated – citizen. The focus needs to be on fostering a deeper understanding of public needs, combined with the transforming of service experience for citizens through embracing technological …

Architecting the Modern Public Sector Enterprise
Enterprise architecture in the field of information technology is about taking a system-wide perspective when delivering change, and ensuring that the change is accessible and sustainable. This paper brings together the perspectives of three technology experts as they navigate their way through change. Each of them has made a tangible difference to their organisations, and each has learned lessons about how to ensure that the enterprise architecture of their organisations is sustainable, relevant, contemporary, and applicable.

Digitally Transforming Corporate Services
Digital transformation and improvement for businesses and public sector organisations is a necessary part of modern operations. This has especially become true since the start of the pandemic, given the number of employees forced to working remotely. This paper examines the digital transformation processes of three very different organisations from different jurisdictions, and follows their journeys before and during the pandemic, as well as their future goals and challenges. The lessons they have learned have made them more resilient, and the ramifications will be around for years to come.

Improving Contract & Supplier Management
The procurement industry has been greatly affected by COVID-19 and will continue to feel the aftershocks for a long time. It is a crucial industry that provides critical services, and it is also an industry that is innovative and adaptive. This paper follows the journeys of three public sector institutions from three jurisdictions as they navigated the pandemic. Each dealt with the crisis differently and each discovered that the crisis left them wanting, but maintaining good relationships and working with suppliers to get through the crisis served each of them well, and provides lessons to others.
Data, Analytics and AI
Information & Data Management
All organisations collect data and use data. Some organisations have embraced technology more than others and have therefore been able to leverage their data better. The goal now is for other organisations to better use the data at their disposal, and to integrate it with their available technology, to improve the efficiency of the organisation and the customer experience. This paper presents two Australian examples and a Canadian perspective on how data can be used to create efficiencies and to change the operations of an organisation for the better. The lessons contained within these examples are relevant to any organisation …
