After the event, we were grateful to have had the opportunity to interview Okta in an intimate conversation on their perspectives with technology trends and barriers faced in their community.
What overall trends are you seeing in terms of technology in your industry?
The biggest trend we are seeing is the use of technology to secure and protect access to systems and peoples data. Businesses are really aware of the threat cyber security issues pose to their organizations in both terms of reputational risk and actual commercial loss. Previously this would be handled as a lower lever technology function, but today, from the board through senior management, protecting systems and access is top of mind. We do not see this changing, in fact we see it as becoming even more important as new threats emerge.
What is the next big thing in terms of technology and where do you see it in the next 2 to 5 years?
The next big thing is the evolution of managing privacy and security. Today's trust in organisations to protect an individual's data, access history and shared information will need to evolve to an absolute guarantee of safety and security. As Government services are delivered more and more online, citizens will need to be 100% sure that data shared remains private and used only for the purpose it was shared for.
Aside from the pandemic , what have been some of the technology challenges or barriers experienced in the last 12 months?
Remote working and the use of video conferencing has enabled a dramatic change in how and where people work and how they share information. Unfortunately not all technology has kept pace with ensuring that "bad-actors" cannot also take advantage of the less secure access points. Zero Trust has been recognized as critical to ensure secure access, but is not always being applied as effectively as it should be. Okta believes all the core features and functions to provide the correct security posture are available today and there is no excuse why they should not be in place.
What has been your best performing technology in the last 12 months and why?
Sometimes it is the simplest items that deliver a great result. Okta's MFA and AMFA products have provided an enhanced service to clients quickly and easily. Whilst a simple business context asking for a second, or appropriate factor is now normal, 12 months ago it was a relatively new concept. It is now the de facto standard for appropriate security.
