NSW Government funding for Digital ID & upgrades to digital licensing
Breakdown & insight into the new NSW Government funding for Digital ID and Digital Licensing.
As last week's NSW budget makes it through the various departments, it is exciting to see more funding for Digital ID and upgrades to digital licensing.
The NSW Government is finally diving in on a long-awaited overhaul of the state’s fragmented licencing and permits system. Canberra & other states are watching what NSW does next because it is substantially ahead of its peers and the federal government when it comes to digitised credentials. NSW created the digital driver’s licences that other states are now emulating.
Quietly revealed in last week’s state budget, the NSW Department of Customer Service has secured a raft of funding for Digital ID upgrades and to transition an additional 80 licenses to the new online Licence NSW system, which will cover the bulk of regulatory permits in the state.
The shift is significant as it will create a back-end digital registry that, when integrated, will not only speed up and automate a lot of the drudgery of licence applications but will also enable the cross-checking of eligibility and ban information.
This new system replaces legacy technology, enhances security, and makes interactions with applications faster and more convenient.
With these changes, upgrades and further digital transformation, there will certainly be a need for people to support these uplifts.
