NSW Digital Government Strategy - Mission 4: Enhancing Resilience and Safety in Digital and Physical Environments for NSW

In a rapidly evolving digital world, the NSW Government prioritises resilience and safety to ensure that communities are prepared for emergencies and able to access support when needed. Mission 4 focuses on strengthening both digital and physical systems to handle crises, protect sensitive data, and deliver critical services in times of need. This mission involves collaborative efforts to enhance NSW’s capability to respond to and recover from disruptions, whether they are digital, environmental, or operational.

Our Mission: Building a Resilient and Safe NSW

By fortifying digital infrastructure, enhancing cybersecurity measures, and improving emergency response capabilities, NSW is committed to keeping its communities safe and resilient. The government is focused on preparing for potential challenges through proactive planning, partnerships, and ongoing improvement of services, ensuring that all residents can rely on secure and accessible systems, even in times of crisis.

Key Objectives

To achieve this mission, the NSW Government has outlined four main objectives:

  1. Strengthen Cyber Resilience
As cyber threats become more sophisticated, the NSW Government recognises the importance of cyber resilience to protect sensitive information and maintain public trust. Enhanced cybersecurity protocols and a focus on training ensure that systems and services can withstand and recover from digital attacks. Cyber drills, simulations, and partnerships with industry experts are integral to staying prepared and reinforcing system resilience.

  2. Improve Emergency Response Capabilities
Reliable digital systems are essential during emergencies, helping people quickly access information and resources. The NSW Government is committed to building strong emergency response frameworks that use advanced digital tools like AI-driven alerts, predictive analytics, and real-time data sharing. These tools are crucial for responding to natural disasters, health emergencies, and other crises, providing swift and effective support to NSW communities.

  3. Enhance Physical and Digital Infrastructure for Resilience
NSW’s physical and digital infrastructure must be resilient enough to handle unexpected disruptions. The government is focused on maintaining robust infrastructure that can withstand environmental and operational stresses. This involves updating physical assets like transport and communication networks and improving digital platforms to ensure continuity of service, minimise downtime, and maintain security during times of strain.

  4. Promote Community Awareness and Preparedness
Resilience is not just about technology—it’s about empowering people to prepare and respond effectively. The NSW Government is committed to building public awareness around resilience practices, providing information on emergency protocols, and offering tools that help communities stay informed and prepared. This approach ensures that individuals and businesses across NSW have the knowledge and resources to respond confidently to unexpected events.

Progress and Commitments

  • Digital Emergency Services Hub: A centralised platform for emergency resources and real-time updates.
  • NSW Cyber Security Operations Centre: Enhancing cybersecurity measures and coordination across government agencies.
  • Public Awareness Campaigns: Promoting community preparedness and resilience through educational programmes.
  • Infrastructure Resilience Framework: Strengthening physical and digital infrastructure to withstand and recover from disruptions.

Moving Forward

The NSW Government’s commitment to resilience and safety ensures that its digital and physical environments can respond to and recover from emergencies effectively. Through ongoing investment in cybersecurity, emergency response systems, and community engagement, NSW is building a foundation of trust and security.

By collaborating with industry experts, leveraging advanced technologies, and focusing on public preparedness, the government is creating a resilient NSW where communities are protected and prepared. This proactive approach to resilience ensures that NSW can weather challenges and continue to deliver essential services, keeping the community safe, informed, and supported.
