This uniqueness and originality of South Australia gives rise to innovation in government. The state for instance is pioneering a data science system to deliver better human services outcomes, and overall, because the government departments in the state are smaller and not quite as siloed, there is greater collaboration and a better co-design process. This paper explores some of those matters and looks at the causes of innovation, what happens when there are failures, creating a culture of digitisation, and what the current trends and challenges are for a continued and renewed state of innovation.
