Overview

Australia’s public sector faces a significant challenge in managing data assets amid rising demands for digital transformation.

In 2026, the Australian Government reported 103 in‑flight major digital projects across 43 agencies, with a total budget commitment of AUD $9.7 billion, including AUD $5.9 billion spent on digital technologies. With programs and services operating at this scale, the efficiency and accuracy of business intelligence (BI) systems become critical. Inconsistent reporting, manual data preparation, and unclear metrics make it harder to track performance, surface risks early, and support timely decisions.

This challenge is further amplified by the size of the public sector workforce. In June 2025, the Australian Bureau of Statistics reported 2,597,300 public sector employee jobs (about 2.6 million). This means even small improvements in reporting efficiency and data confidence can have wide operational impact, making foundational Power BI skills data preparation, modelling, and building shareable reports and dashboards increasingly important across government teams.

Microsoft Power BI is a business intelligence tool that helps people analyse data and turn it into clear, useful insights. In this course, you’ll use Power BI Desktop to connect to data from different sources, shape and model it, and build interactive reports. You’ll also publish your work to the Power BI Service, where you can share reports and create dashboards to support day-to-day decisions.

Join us for a practical, in-depth, and hands-on introduction to self-service Business Intelligence and streamline how you collect, clean, and visualise data.
