Australian Museum and Galleries Association Western Australia

The national peak body and membership organisation for museums, galleries, and community collecting organisations.

The Australian Museums and Galleries Association (AMaGA) is the national peak body and membership organisation advocating for a thriving, diverse, and inclusive collections sector. Our vision is that Australia’s museums and galleries are financially supported, cherished, enjoyed and protected, ensuring their enduring value for present and future generations.

AMaGA Western Australia is the State Branch of the national association with offices in Boorloo / Perth, with a commitment to representing regional collecting organisations and communities. We believe that the cumulative and distributed State collection is the collective memory of Western Australians. AMaGA WA strives to ensure it is valued accordingly, by government and by communities.

As a non-government, not-for-profit arts service body, we are the only organisation in WA dedicated to professional development, support, and advocacy for collecting institutions, with over 30 years of proven expertise delivering sustainable and culturally appropriate outcomes.

We can provide knowledge and insight into the cultural infrastructure, moveable cultural heritage, digitised collections, voluntary and paid workforces in the collections sector, to provide a holistic picture. We believe that culture and arts can be a source for creative production, health & wellbeing, social cohesion, community development and personal enjoyment.
