Overview

DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) is the calculation engine behind Power BI, enabling public sector professionals to harness the full potential of their data for informed decision-making. By enhancing existing data models, DAX provides powerful tools for advanced analytics, uncovering trends and insights that go beyond standard reporting capabilities.

This course is specifically designed to equip government professionals with the skills needed to analyse complex datasets, optimise resource allocation, and support evidence-based policy decisions. From foundational concepts to advanced techniques, participants will gain the ability to perform detailed filtering, time series intelligence, and performance optimisation to address unique challenges in the public sector.

Learning Outcomes

Master DAX Syntax and Functions: Gain a comprehensive understanding of DAX syntax and its diverse range of functions. Learn to create complex calculations and analytical expressions that provide deeper insights into your data.
Optimise Data Models and Reporting: Discover best practices for optimising Power BI data models. Understand the differences between calculated columns and measures, and learn when and how to use each for maximum efficiency.
Enhance Data Context and Refinement: Develop advanced skills in manipulating data context with filtering functions such as CALCULATE, FILTER, and KEEPFILTERS, enabling refined and targeted data analysis.
Perform Advanced Time Series Analysis: Unlock the ability to perform sophisticated time-based calculations, including year-over-year comparisons, running totals, and other period-based metrics to effectively track trends and performance over time.
Leverage DAX Tools for Optimisation: Utilise essential tools like DAX Studio and DAX Formatter to debug, format, and optimize your queries, ensuring better performance, maintainability, and accuracy in your Power BI reports.
