These advances in technology have brought new possibilities and also created new expectations. '*

At the Public Sector Innovation Show in Wellington 2019, Ann-Marie Cavanagh, Acting Deputy Chief Executive from the Department of Internal Affairs launched the new Digital Strategy for a unified public service in NZ at the Public Sector Innovation Show this morning. Ann-Marie stated that It is a unique environment in New Zealand, but the aim is to build a better country. The New Zealand Government is already ranked within the prestige D9/Digital 9 (a network of the worlds most advanced digital nations) and with this new strategy, they intend to continue that focus on technology whilst still bringing it back to the people and a citizen-centric focus. Their key aim is to ensure that agencies operate efficiently and with this comes challenges. It is understood and touted that going digital makes everything simpler, but the question to answer is how to ensure that everything works in the back end to run seamlessly and cohesively with existing structures whilst leveraging cultural change.

Strategy Summary: The Strategy for a Digital Public Service sets the direction to modernise and transform the public service, putting citizens and businesses at the centre of government services. The Strategy seeks to enable the public service to use the right tools and the right approaches for the right job. It doesn't set out to create rigid rules for tomorrow. It's committed to the unified Public Service and focuses on the people, behaviours and government system settings that will enable a modern public service to implement, adapt and grow in a rapidly changing environment.
